What Is HotspotOS?
HotspotOS is a WiFi access point operating system developed for centralized management of compatible wireless access points.
It provides functions including AP monitoring, wireless configuration, client isolation, captive portal integration and multi-AP management.
HotspotOS

HotspotOS is an access point operating system developed to provide centralized configuration, monitoring and Guest WiFi integration for compatible wireless access points.
It integrates with WiFi Hotspot and allows administrators to manage supported AP settings through a centralized interface.
HotspotOS provides centralized management capabilities for compatible WiFi access points.
Administrators can monitor access point status, configure wireless settings, manage SSIDs, adjust transmission power, restart devices and review hardware information such as CPU and memory usage.
HotspotOS Development Status
HotspotOS remains available for existing compatible deployments, but it should now be considered a legacy WiFi management solution.
No further feature development is planned for HotspotOS.
Existing deployments can continue using their current configuration where appropriate, while organizations planning a new WiFi Hotspot installation should use current supported network hardware.
Recommended for New Deployments: MikroTik
For new WiFi Hotspot installations, we recommend supported MikroTik routers instead of starting a new HotspotOS-based deployment.
MikroTik provides a flexible RouterOS platform that integrates with WiFi Hotspot for Guest WiFi authentication, Internet access control and centralized service management. WiFi Hotspot already supports a wide range of MikroTik routers and provides dedicated configuration guidance.
Centralized AP Management
HotspotOS was designed to simplify administration of compatible access points from one management interface.
These capabilities made it possible to manage multiple compatible access points without configuring every device independently. The current HotspotOS implementation exposes these functions through its web management interface.

Coordinate Multiple Access Points
HotspotOS includes a Virtual Controller architecture for compatible multi-AP installations.
Within the HotspotOS network, one access point can assume the controller role and coordinate configuration information for other connected access points.
This architecture was designed to simplify centralized configuration and help maintain consistent wireless settings across multiple APs without requiring a separate proprietary hardware controller.


HotspotOS Whitelabel
HotspotOS was also designed to support white-label deployments for partners and hardware vendors.
Existing customized installations may include partner branding, captive portal configuration and RADIUS settings.
Because HotspotOS is a legacy solution and no additional feature development is planned, new white-label projects should be evaluated using current WiFi Hotspot-supported hardware and deployment options rather than creating a new HotspotOS implementation.
WiFi Network Roaming
Support Movement Between Compatible Access Points
HotspotOS supports wireless roaming functionality for compatible multi-AP environments.
Existing deployments can use supported roaming capabilities to help connected users move between access points while maintaining WiFi connectivity.
The current HotspotOS implementation includes support for 802.11k/v/r-related roaming functionality on compatible hardware and configurations.
For new projects where roaming, hardware management or network architecture is an important requirement, we recommend evaluating the current supported hardware platform rather than designing a new installation around Hotspot
